What is NC-559 Flux used for ?
Flux is a chemical agent used in soldering (and welding) to clean metal surfaces, remove oxides, prevent re-oxidation, and help solder flow smoothly and bond effectively, ensuring strong, reliable joints in electronics and plumbing. It acts as a cleaning agent, a barrier against air, and a wetting agent, allowing solder to "wet" the metal instead of just sitting on top.
How does this compare to Amtech branded products ?
Amtech branded flux is no longer produced by the company, they rebranded it under a different name due to the high level of fake product being sold on Ebay, any Amtech branded flux you can find on the market today is NOT Amtech, it will be a generic Chinese produced flux, we have used both and found this particular one we supply to be as close to Amtech ASM-NC 559 flux as you could get, we use it in our own workshop.
Can it be used for both iron and hot air rework ?
Yes, it is excellent for everyday general soldering and we have used it for small BGA rework without issue, however, we would not recommend for larger BGA rework, ie, GPU and CPU rework, for this we would look to a higher end product.

Amtech as a brand no longer produces or distributes NC-559 flux in the original form. As a result, flux sold today under the “Amtech” name is not manufactured or supplied by the original brand.

Because of this, professional technicians now focus on the formula and performance, not the label on the syringe.
